Our trip to the Big Apple

We took a somewhat spontaneous trip to NYC this past weekend.  Seeing the Rockettes for the Christmas Spectacular has been on our bucket list, so when I found a deal online, we decided that this trip would be our Christmas gift to each other.   We left early Friday morning, and arrived at our destination 4 1/2 hours later (it should have taken 3 1/2, but there was a "gridlock alert," and sure enough it took us an extra hour once inside the city).  Our first stop was St. Patrick's Cathedral, which was under construction, but still beautiful even behind scaffolding.  We went to lunch at Ellen's Stardust Diner, which was a very fun experience.  The waiters and waitresses are aspiring Broadway stars, so there is plenty of singing going on.  After we had our fill, we enjoyed perusing the Museum of Modern Art.  It was then time for the main attraction.  The show was amazing, and we all enjoyed it, even a very tired Quinn.  After the show, we drove just outside the city to visit some dear friends.  We had a great time catching up, visiting a cider mill, and going to the mall.  It was a wonderful, very busy two days and we are all still recovering.

We started seeing these signs when we were still 2 hours away

Plenty of gridlock and traffic, including this guy walking his pretzel stand down the middle of 8th Ave.
Still trying to get to 54th...

National Harbor

This past weekend, we went to the National Harbor to the Children's Museum, and to ride the Capital Wheel.  I wanted to go before Quinn turns 3 so I didn't have to pay for him on the Wheel.  My Hubby didn't go on the wheel either.  He's been on the one in France (which I believe is bigger), and he didn't want to pay $15 to ride.  I'm glad he's frugal.  And even though he was out in the cold while we were snug in our little heated car, he probably got the better end of the deal since he didn't have to listen to Quinn wailing the whole time.  I wondered if we'd only go around once, but to my dismay (though I would have enjoyed it without the wailing), we went around over 5 times.  Really glad I didn't have to pay for him to be scared to death.  Here are some pictures of our adventure.

All smiles before lift-off

My trick of taking a picture to get him to smile through the tears worked! Notice he is now on my lap.

Hiking Adventure

Last weekend, we were able to take in the fall colors at Patapsco Valley State Park.  We had a great time hiking and spending time together in beautiful surroundings.

We'd probably still be there if we hiked at Quinn's pace

The backpack was a much faster method
